Initial Design Session
One of the unique elements of the design process with McConnell and Ewing is the initial design session that serves as a feasibility study of sorts. This is a sketching session where the architects of MEA meet with you, the client, to not only listen to your ideas but actually sketch in the meeting with you. This serves to directly involve you in the excitement of the design process and results ultimately in a better design solution most suited to your needs. Oftentimes for a new home, if the weather cooperates, we will walk the property with you and then set up a table right on the site to do the sketching session outside in the actual environment of the future project.
This can be a very memorable time, and the goal for this meeting is to come up with some freehand plan drawings and exterior sketch images which capture the essence and direction of the project. This also provides an opportunity to start discussing the project budget and begin to make design decisions that help to align the project size and scope with the client's target budget. Much like construction of the building itself, the importance of this initial work can be foundational in the success of the overall project. |
